Letter to students on statement

Dear student leaders and students

I am deeply disturbed to learn of a statement claimed to be signed by me which was circulated to students by the Health Sciences Students Council.

I am stating publically that I have not seen the statement nor have I given my consent for it to be published.  This act represents a breach of trust.

Student leaders must retract this statement and immediately make a public statement indicating that the signing of the statement is false and offer a public apology immediately.

The Deanery in their capacity as management of the university remains totally committed to work with students and staff to ensure that the spirit of the resolutions taken at the Faculty Open Forum meeting held yesterday 5 October 2016 in the New Learning Centre are upheld.

We are committed to work with the student leaders to draft a joint statement that reflects the resolution of the Faculty Open Forum.

Yours sincerely

Bongani Mayosi
Dean
