European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP)

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) exists to accelerate the clinical development of new or improved health technologies for the identification, treatment and prevention of poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases, including (re-)emerging diseases. The Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking (GH EDCTP3 JU) builds on the first and second European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership programmes.

Under the current EU/EDCTP terms and conditions, this may lead to forex losses that are unsustainable for research groups. Wellcome

 Wellcome  works with people and organisations using science to solve health challenges. They fund discovery research into life, health and wellbeing, and support research to find solutions to three health challenges: mental health, infectious disease, and climate. Wellcome funds discovery research in and across physical, social, data and life sciences, the humanities and clinical research.

  • Wellcome Early-Career Awards
    • The Wellcome Early-Career Awards scheme provides funding for early-career researchers from any discipline who are ready to develop their research identity. Through innovative projects, they will deliver shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health, and wellbeing. By the end of the award, they will be ready to lead their own independent research programme.
    •    Funding:
      • Salary for the grant holder
      • Provides up to £400,000 support for research expenses
      • The award lasts for up to 5 years
    •    Eligibility:
      • Early-career researcher (up to 3 years since completing PhD degree) may apply
  • Wellcome Career Development Awards
    • The Wellcome Career Development Award scheme provides funding for mid-career researchers from any discipline who have the potential to be international research leaders. They will develop their research capabilities, drive innovative programmes of work, and deliver significant shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health, and wellbeing.
    •    Funding:
      • Salary for the grant holder
      • Provides support for research expenses
      • The award lasts for up to 8 years
    •    Eligibility:
      • Mid-career researchers, already driving their own research and ready to lead a substantial and innovative research programme may apply.
  • Wellcome Discovery Awards
    • The Wellcome Discovery Awards scheme provides funding for established researchers and teams from any discipline who want to pursue bold and creative research ideas to deliver significant shifts in understanding that could improve human life, health, and wellbeing.
    •    Funding:
      • Provides appropriate support for the proposed research
      • The award lasts for up to 8 years
    •    Eligibility:
      • An established researcher, with international standing as a research leader in their field, or a team of researchers led by an established researcher.
