Support for grant writing
The Research Development team encourages and enables sustainable research in the Faculty of Health Sciences by supporting academic staff seeking funding from national and international agencies. Support provided to researchers includes identifying and distributing suitable research funding opportunities, offering strategic advice and support through seminars and internal review services, and guiding researchers through UCT’s internal submission processes.
The team also provides grant writing support for multidisciplinary, multinational collaborative grant applications to international funders, which includes writing, editing, proof-reading, strategic advice on proposal content, budget development, liaising with funders, and coordinating and integrating inputs from multiple collaborators.
Grant writing support is provided at a cost. Assistance to researchers who have held small self-initiated grants from local agencies only (e.g., MRC, NRF, CANSA, and excluding large programs like MRC Units and Flagships, Centres of Excellence and SARChI) will be at R250 per hour, while established researchers who already hold substantial local and/or international grants will be at a rate of R500 per hour.To request grant writing support, complete the intention-to-submit form at least 6 weeks prior to the funder deadline. However, a request for grant writing support does not guarantee support will be provided. Requests will be evaluated and prioritised on a case-by-case basis.
