Specialist registrar training

Radiation Oncology offers a four year specialist training program that encompasses all aspects of oncological care, including radiotherapy and chemotherapy. We currently have 8 registrar training posts registered with the HPCSA. Trainees are eligible to sit for the FC Rad Onc (SA) exams at the end of their training and can also enrol for the MMed program at UCT.

There are also specialist training posts for supernumerary registrars from South Africa and the rest of Africa through collaboration with the IAEA. All applications for training posts to be made through the departmental secretary, Zelda Olckers (zelda.olckers@uct.ac.za)

Undergraduate training

Our department collaborates with the department of surgery in providing 5th year medical students with a two week rotation through the department to expose them to the field of radiation oncology.
