Security Alert: security incidents adjacent to Medical School campus - Released 16h16, 11 February 2016

To all staff and students
We would like to urgently alert you to three armed incidents - two robberies and a car hijacking - involving staff and students in the Falmouth road area, on Monday, 8 February (see attached map).
The two incidents involving students occurred around midday within minutes of each other. Both students were threatened with handguns. One student was robbed on the corner of Falmouth and George Street (near the Lung Institute), and the other was hijacked in Liskeard Rd, between Obz Square residence and Falmouth Rd. The third incident occurred after 4pm, when a staff member was robbed using a knife at the field in George street, where her car was parked. The reports filed suggest that these incidents may not be related. The two students and staff member have been offered counselling by the university.
These criminal incidents are deeply disturbing for our community - the safety of our staff and students is of the greatest concern to us. We have requested that patrols of the Groote Schuur Central Improvement District be increased in this area immediately. We ask staff and students to be vigilant at all times, and to report any concerns to the Security desk in the Barnard Fuller Building or dial 021 406 6690.
In the event of a security incident, please contact the desk or Reece Brooks on 083 643 2328 immediately.
