Prof Cyril Karabus

I am pleased to share the news that today, eight weeks after his imprisonment in the UAE, Professor Cyril Karabus was finally granted bail on condition that he surrender his passport and pay 100 000 dirhams (R240 000) as a deposit to the court.

The court findings yesterday were:

  • Judge granted order for hospital to release original medical file
  • Judge ordered defence team permission to review said file
  • Judge ordered an independent medical panel will be appointed to review the file

The family is thankful for the support and efforts of family, friends, colleagues, students and patients from around the world, all of whom have worked tirelessly in affirming the integrity of Professor Karabus.

This is by no means the end, as the trial is set to recommence on 20 November, and continued efforts to ensure that justice will prevail are encouraged.
