Dear Staff and Student Colleagues

The faculty deeply mourns the passing of Ms Phuthumile Ndlovu, a postgraduate student in the Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery in the Division of Nursing and Midwifery, Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

Ms. Ndlovu passed away on 11 November 2025 at the age of 43 and was laid to rest in her home province of KwaZulu-Natal. Her loss has brought profound sorrow to the staff and students of the Division, where she was greatly admired and respected.

Phuthumile was a dedicated and committed student who consistently demonstrated an exceptional work ethic throughout her studies. Prior to her illness, she maintained full attendance at both the academic and clinical components of the programme, reflecting her deep commitment to midwifery practice and professional excellence. She was known among staff and peers for her forthright, principled, and no-nonsense manner, complemented by a gentle and deeply caring spirit.

Her passing has left a significant void within the Division of Nursing and Midwifery. She is remembered not only for her academic diligence, but also for her proactive engagement she brought to her learning community. Phuthumile was a promising specialist midwife, and her loss is felt across the Division and the broader Faculty.

The Faculty extends its deepest condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and colleagues. Phuthumile’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her, taught her, and walked alongside her during her journey in midwifery.

Rest peacefully, Phuthumile
