Dear Colleagues

Following my communication on the 11th of May 2026, Please find attached an update on the Faculty's ongoing work to explore opportunities to enhance the efficiency of research grants and contracts management.

This work is founded on a simple principle: that our administrative systems should enable excellent research by supporting our researchers with services that are efficient, responsive and fit for purpose. As our research enterprise continues to grow in scale and complexity, it is important that we regularly reflect on how our systems can evolve to better meet the needs of our research community.

The process we have embarked upon is intentionally collaborative and evidence-informed. By bringing together the expertise of our academic and professional colleagues, we aim to understand where opportunities for improvement exist, consider the broader implications of any proposed changes, and ensure that future decisions are guided by careful analysis, meaningful consultation and the University's governance processes.

I invite you to read the attached letter and to join us in this important journey. Together, through thoughtful collaboration and a shared commitment to excellence, we can explore opportunities to strengthen the systems that underpin our research enterprise and position our Faculty to meet the opportunities and challenges of the future.

Enkosi kakhulu
