Professor Michael Kew honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award from CANSA

Honorary Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital, Professor Michael (Mike) Kew, was honoured at this year’s CANSA ‘Research in Action’ conference held in Stellenbosch University. Professor Kew was presented with the CANSA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his significant contributions to the knowledge and understanding of primary liver cancer in South Africa. Through his pioneering research, Prof Kew provided the first evidence of the causal association between hepatitis B virus infection and hepatocellular carcinomas in Southern Africa.
