Eight out of 51 in 200 Young South African list from the Faculty

The Faculty of Health Sciences featured a healthy number of its own among the 51 University of Cape Town (UCT) students, staff and alumni who made the annual Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans list.
The list features notable South Africans under the age of 35 who have made a mark for themselves in categories ranging from business and entrepreneurship, to the environment, arts and entertainment.
Out of the 200 exceptional young people featured on this year’s list, and the 51 from UCT, eight emanate from Health Sciences.
The Faculty is exceptionally proud of their achievements, and sends hearty congratulations to:
1. Itumeleng Tsatsi, a lecturer in occupational therapy at the University of the Free State, and who holds a BSc from UCT.
2. UCT alumnus Julia Turner, a medical adviser at Right to Care, and who holds a master’s in public health.
3. Khanyisile Kgoadi, who is a clinical science and immunology PhD student at UCT.
4. Kim Buchholtz, a physiotherapy lecturer at UCT, where she also obtained her BSc and MPhil.
5. Mvuwo Tshavhungwe, a PhD candidate in neuroscience at UCT.
6. Nikhat Hoosen, who holds a master’s in public health, and is a researcher at the Centre for Infectious Disease and Epidemiology Research at UCT.
7. Nkateko Mnisi, member of the Junior Doctors Association of South Africa (JUDASA) National Council, and who has an MBChB from UCT.
8. Neuroscientist Sahba Nomvula Besharat, who has a PhD jointly awarded by UCT and King’s College London.
Thirty UCT staff, students and alumni were featured in the 2017 list, up from 22 in 2016.
