Translational cancer research course: from bench-to-bedside and beyond
The ICGEB (International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology) and the Cancer Research Initiative co-hosted a Translational Cancer Research Course, in Cape Town. Forty-seven emerging cancer researchers from South Africa, India, Iran, Kenya, Libya, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Zambia and Australia attended the course, held at the Protea Breakwater Lodge Hotel last month.
Teaching faculty was drawn from UCT, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), University of Bern, Harvard Medical School, Toxicon Cooperation, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Lectures and discussion ranged from cancer biology to personalized medicine to prevention and early diagnosis.
Participants remarked that they left the course with a heightened appreciation of the importance of working together to address the burden of cancer.
