Dear staff and students

I am delighted to welcome Professor Ntobeko Ntusi who today commences his first day as the Chair and Head of the Department (HOD) of Medicine.  

Professor Ntusi underwent his undergraduate studies in medicine and postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology at UCT and Groote Schuur Hospital. Between 2010 and 2014, he was the Nuffield Oxford Medical Fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford where he completed a DPhil on cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging. He brings to this position impressive achievements in research, clinical service and teaching. Read more about Professor Ntusi’s journey to success. 

I wish to extend my best wishes to Professor Ntusi as he proceeds to strengthen his contribution to the Faculty through this new leadership role. I also thank Professor Gary Maartens for serving UCT and Groote Schuur Hospital with distinction as the Acting Head of the Department of Medicine over the past 10 months.
