ABOUT THE KEYNOTE

Implementation science (IS) is gaining recognition for its role in enhancing health outcomes by connecting research evidence with practical application. However, most IS frameworks and methods have been developed in high-income countries, raising concerns about their applicability, fairness and sustainability in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).  The Building Bridges Framework and its key pillars will be used to evaluate research programs to improve the prevention and control of cardiometabolic conditions in India over the last 15 years, most recently with funding from the Global Alliance for Chronic Disease (GACD).

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Professor Brian Oldenburg is a Senior Principal Research Fellow and Team Lead of the NCD and Implementation Science team at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Until recently, he was Director of the Connected Health NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Digital Technology and Inaugural Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for NCDs and Implementation Research. His research focuses on improving the prevention and management of cardiometabolic conditions in high-income and resource-constrained settings. His work has developed community-based, digital health and health-system interventions to improve health outcomes.

He currently holds Visiting Professorships in Denmark, China, India and South Africa. He was the 2025 Distinguished Scientist of the US Society of Behavioral Medicine and is a Fellow of the International Society of Behavioral Medicine. He has directed many training and capacity-building programs, including the US-NIH Collaborative Training Grant Building the Asian Non-Communicable Disease Research Network for Regional Research Capacity (ASCEND). He has also led the development of Implementation Science Training for the GACD over the past decade.
