Animal Research Ethics Committee (AEC)
The Faculty of Health Sciences has appointed an Animal Research Ethics Committee (AEC) to ensure the humane care and ethical use of animals in research, teaching and testing in compliance with the South African National Standard for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes (10386:2021) and the Department of Health Ethics Guidelines (2015).
The AEC must review and approve any activities that involve the use of live vertebrate animals and animal material before commencement. The composition of the AEC is in accordance with the SANS (10386:2021) and the requirements of the Department of Health, Ethics in Health Research: Principles, Structures and Processes, 2nd ed., 2015
