Training in the department of Nuclear Medicine

 

Nuclear Medicine Medical Specialist training

Registrars enrolled in the Nuclear Medicine Training Program at UCT are subject to a 4-year training period under the supervision of the consultants in the department. This includes informal training within the workplace as well as formal training in the form of tutorials, academic and case presentations.

 

To register as nuclear physician at the Health Professions Council of South Africa a candidate needs to complete the following:

MMed part 1

  • Applied Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
  • Radiation physics and Instrumentation

MMed part 2

  • Clinical Nuclear Medicine, Radio-pharmacy and Radiobiology.

MMed part 3:

  • A Masters Dissertation

 

Nuclear Medicine Radiographers

Prospective students wanting to train to become Nuclear Medicine Radiographers are trained through the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). They qualify with a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Medicine after a 4-year period
