This Comprehensive HIV Testing course is designed to train health professionals and allied health professionals to safely provide HIV testing services to the public. 

The course has two components:

Day 1: The first part of the course will cover the theory around HIV, HIV testing and ethical considerations when conducting the test. This will be in the form of pre-recorded sessions that will take place online. Thereafter a quiz/assessment will be completed prior to the second day.

Day 2: The second part of the course will take place in person where attendees will have a practical demonstration and the final practical assessment as a summative assessment.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain key concepts associated with HIV testing 
  • Clarify the importance of HIV rapid testing 
  • Clarify the importance of HIV testing in a broader public health setting with relevant examples
  • Explain the different HIV testing Modalities in South Africa
  • Describe the preparation of HIV testing environment according to safety and procedural guidelines. 
  • Demonstrate capacity in performing quality assurance and  HIV rapid testing 

A digital certificate of completion will be issued to participants on successful completion of the course.
