The Understanding End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Dialysis short course is essential to improve the clinician’s capacity to deliver individualised quality care to complex patients affected by renal disease.
The course will focus on providing healthcare professionals with the core knowledge and skills required to care for patients affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD), identify manifestations of the disease and manage the complications.
This course was designed and will be presented by the Division of Nursing and Midwifery at UCT.

Entry requirements: Valid registration with professional council - South African Nursing Council (SANC)
Learning Outcomes
- Restoring and maintaining optimal health of patients receiving renal replacement therapy
- Care of the dialysis patient
- Manifestation of Chronic Kidney Disease and the management of complications
- Dialysis Therapies and Transplantation
