This course is aimed at Clinical Coders and Case Managers; those seeking a career in Clinical Coding or Case Management.

Entry requirements: Grade 12 Certificate is the minimum requirement

Live Lectures via MS Teams: All course fees are due in full 2 weeks before the training commences.
Distance Learning: All course fees are due in full at least 48 hours before your start date.
No payment plans are available.

  • Volumes 1, 2 & 3
  • 3,4 and 5 Character Coding
  • Variable Axis Classification
  • Basic rules and conventions
  • Dagger and asterisk coding
  • Sequelae coding
  • Coding of injuries / poisoning and external causes
  • MDR TB coding
  • Coding of infections
  • Accuracy in coding
  • Selection of primary  and secondary diagnosis
  • Basic practical applications (coding of single conditions and application of dual coding rule)
  • SA Morbidity Coding Standards Document

A digital certificate of completion will be issued to participants on successful completion of the course.

How to Register

You will need to complete the registration form and send a copy of your Grade 12 certificate (and/or highest qualification).

Complete the Registration Form online. Please ensure you acknowledge the terms and conditions and sign and date the form.

Distance Learning / E-Learning

This course has now been converted to e-learning. This means that you will be given access to the course material online for self-study. Should you select the e-learning version of the course, you will NOT attend any lectures. You will have a total of 6 weeks to complete the course and will need to complete an online assessment during this time.

There are no specified start dates for the clinical coding courses being completed via e-learning. You can therefore start the course at any time. Your online learning account will be activated within 48 hours of receipt of your completed registration form and proof of payment, i.e. you determine your own start date.

Live Lectures via MS Teams

If you prefer to attend live lectures via Microsoft Teams, you will need to wait for a course to be scheduled. These lectures will only go ahead if the minimum required of 12 registrations is met. Please view the course calendar on the website for a list of available dates.

You will be notified once the course is confirmed, and payment of the course fee will be requested.
