Persons with disabilities are at higher risk of exposure to violence including gender-based violence (GBV) and disability-related violence (DRV).

In this course participants will develop expand their understanding of disabilities inclusion beyond a medical model, appreciate disability-related health disparities and how it intersects with violence.

Entry requirements: Basic qualification for health professions practice, administration and management and leadership

This course is intended for: Health professionals (including but not limited to nurses, medical doctors, occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, audiologists, psychologists, dietitians, optometrists, medical specialists) health administrators, managers, leaders, policymakers, Rehabilitation Care Workers, Community health workers.

Course content

Module 1: Understanding disability and disability inclusion
Module 2: Identifying disability related needs and barriers in healthcare
Module 3: Building disability inclusive and accessible health and post-GBV care services
Module 4: Practical session with Disability Awareness Checklist
Module 5: Understanding gender-based violence (GBV) and intimate partner violence (IPV)
Module 6: Identifying risk factors of violence against people with disabilities
Module 7: Developing disability accessible and inclusive health care facilities and services

The course will be provided offered in an asynchronous, online format and participants will need a computer, smartphone and internet access.  You can register at any point. The course has 7 modules which you are encouraged to complete in 3 months. 

At the end of the course, participants should be able to identify disability related needs in their facilities, possible solutions to address service gaps and feel confident that assist clinic staff to work with people with different types of disabilities. 

A digital certificate will be issued at the end of the short course.
