The Division of Physiotherapy has an active research programme that contributes to physiotherapy practice, education and health research in South Africa and internationally. Research is supported through undergraduate and postgraduate projects, as well as the research activities of academic staff.

Research in the Division addresses a range of areas related to human movement, health, rehabilitation and participation across the lifespan. Current areas include paediatric neurology, neuromusculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, orthopaedic physiotherapy, disability prevention, health promotion and physiotherapy education.

The division has an Ultra-sound imagining machine and EMG machine and has access to the facilities at the Exercise and Sports Medicine Unit Facilities at the Sports Science Institute.
