Ms Ilse Du Plessis
I am a dedicated physiotherapist with an interest in both teaching and research within the fields of rehabilitation and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy. My clinical and research interests include cardiopulmonary physiotherapy, critical care, rehabilitation after critical illness as well as spinal cord injury rehabilitation. Since completing my clinical master’s degree in neurology and neurosurgery, I am pursuing a PhD focused on long-term outcomes following critical illness, including post-intensive care syndrome, with an emphasis on holistic patient outcomes and survivorship in the South African context.
I am actively involved in undergraduate teaching and am passionate about continuous learning and the education of future physiotherapists. I have extensive experience in clinical supervision within critical and acute care settings and contribute to postgraduate supervision in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy and rehabilitation. I am committed to advancing physiotherapy education and contributing to the improvement of healthcare delivery in South Africa through work that is contextually relevant, socially responsive and aligned with local healthcare priorities.
