Ms Lauren Rees
I am a registered nurse and midwife with additional qualifications in community health nursing, primary health care, paediatric (child) nursing and nursing education. I am passionate about children’s nursing education, practice and research.
I worked in children’s nursing clinical practice across all levels of care in rural and urban settings and in the public and private sector for many years. My work in rural communities fueled my interest in preventive and promotive child health care which informed my focus on health assessment of children in my educational practice.
My journey into nursing education began with a realization that my influence could be stronger if I demonstrated care for the carers. I have enjoyed teaching undergraduate students in nursing colleges and schools and was a Lecturer-Practitioner of the Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Child Nursing and Critical Care Child Nursing at UCT on a part-time basis for more than ten years.
I will be the Lecturer of the new PGDip in Child Nursing programme. I am looking forward to engaging in more research with a plan to do my PhD in centering care in curriculum development.
