Ms Yolinda van der Nest

Lecturer and convener of the PGDip in Nephrology Nursing

I am a registered Nurse and Midwife, who has lived in Johannesburg and relocated to Cape Town.  

After completing my undergraduate diploma in nursing, I obtained additional qualifications in Occupational Health Nursing, Nephrology Nursing, Nursing Education and Nursing Administration. I am also a registered assessor and moderator. I currently hold a Masters’ degree in Nursing Science, and I have been recognised by the Golden Key Society for academic excellence.

I have a vast experience in the renal field and worked in private and public health settings in South Africa, with renal related medical aid and pharmaceutical experience.  

My Master's dissertation abstract Record review of post-haemodialysis blood results to assess adherence to guidelines for End-Stage Renal Disease, won the Heilie Uys best abstract award at the Scientific Programme of the South African Renal Congress 2022.

I am committed to shaping and moulding nephrology nurses into positive change agents in clinical practice through education and mentorship. Ensuring quality outcomes for patients affected by renal disease with the view of improving their quality of life is also an aspect close to my heart.

I am currently pursuing my PhD in my quest to become a lifelong learner. I am passionate about my career.
