BSc Physiotherapy
Within Disability Studies, we engage with students from diverse backgrounds, and various types of disabilities. Therefore, I think it is important to think about who is in our classroom, how they access knowledge and how we make meaning in learning spaces. My research interests are in teaching practice and how we as educators can use interprofessional teaching to challenge the way we think in our disciplines and professions and encourage problem-solving towards facilitating full/equal participation for students with disabilities. I believe opportunities to learn and teach with other health professionals, will better equip students to manage patients more holistically and help connect them to the appropriate networks. My Masters’ research explored how lecturers use the affordances of multimodal language in pedagogy to create opportunities for students to develop both conceptual and procedural understanding. A key finding was the need for educational development opportunities for lecturers to make explicit how they use multimodal language for disciplinary meaning, and to collaborate with other lecturers working in the same professional degree programmes to plan pedagogy that contextualises the relevant content.
