Mrs Leonore Haley

I am a registered Nurse and Midwife, who has lived and worked as a nurse in urban and rural settings in South Africa in public, private and NGO settings. The last 28 years of my career have been dedicated to palliative care nursing in clinical, management and teaching environments.

After completing my undergraduate diploma in nursing, I obtained additional qualifications in Palliative Nursing, Oncology Nursing, Nursing Education and Nursing Management. I am also a registered assessor and moderator. I am currently completing my Master of Philosophy degree in Palliative Care.

I am committed to having palliative nursing recognised as a nursing speciality in South Africa, to equip and recognise the role of nurses in this rapidly evolving discipline. Currently, I am designing the curriculum for the postgraduate diploma in palliative nursing.

I am passionate about improving the quality of life of individuals living with life-threatening illnesses and their significant others, as they navigate their unique life trajectory.
