Mrs Leigh-Ann Richards
My research interests lie within inclusive practices, organisational development, advocacy and human agency. I am specifically interested in understanding how people enact their agency, and what prevents them from doing this. NGOs in particular have the potential to contribute significantly to transformation in our country and I am interested in understanding and contributing to strengthening this sector.
My Master’s research collected and analysed stories from marginalized South African students accessing student support. A key finding was that marginalised students, surprisingly, do not need the support services that higher education assumes they do. Rather, they sought relational and socio-structural changes within the institution which held potential to benefit all students within Higher Education.
