I have a special interest in Inclusive education, focusing on teacher education and empowerment. Further to this, I am interested in curriculum development and modification, specifically in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how this can be used in classrooms to create a general level of inclusion and cater to a diverse range of abilities. My research has also included a focus on Intellectual disability (ID), across the life stage, with the intention of contributing to the full participation of people with ID in society, including through their living arrangements and family support. This information will also contribute to developing disability studies theory in an African context.
Through my postgraduate research supervision, I have seen the need for decolonial perspectives that draw on indigenous knowledge systems and adopt participatory approaches to research. I encourage students to be critical of the frameworks that they use and interrogate whether they are fit for purpose.
