Postgraduate Diploma Nursing & Midwifery Students Visit the District Six Museum
As part of their coursework, the Postgraduate Diploma students in the Division of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Cape Town recently visited the District Six Museum in Cape Town.
This field trip formed part of the Health and Human Rights component of the Foundations Course in the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery programmes. The visit provided a meaningful learning opportunity, allowing students to engage deeply with the historical realities and social injustices of South Africa’s past, particularly the forced removals that took place during apartheid.
Through this experiential learning experience, students reflected on how historical events continue to influence communities, equity, and health systems today.
The outing, attended by students, course conveners, and clinical educators, was marked by a spirit of engagement, reflection, and camaraderie. It was a day filled with meaningful learning, connection, and shared appreciation for the resilience and stories of those who once called District Six home.
