Disability Studies Class

Condensed Biography

The current students in the disability studies program come from various countries in and outside South Africa. There is a richness, diversity and experiences that are shared in class because of the wealth of information each student contributes.

There are students from Malawi, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, South Africa. They all have different backgrounds and interests. Among the students we have physiotherapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation technicians and orthopaedic technicians.

There are disability advocates and activists, educators, students who work in Government in various portfolios and , Project Managers at provincial and national levels.

The students areas of interest include service delivery, parent support, supporting schools and enabling teachers to work with learning disabled children. The students also want to engage with policy development, implementation and advocacy and build the capacity of disabled people to conduct research.
