Our department runs an active clinical cardiovascular magnetic resonance service with Friday afternoons reserved for the scanning of acute/ inpatient and outpatient cases.
The case load consists of a broad range of pathologies including the spectrum of ischemic heart disease, adult congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathies and inflammatory diseases of the heart, with shared expertise ensuring that high quality reports are provided to guide further clinical management.
Furthermore, the Cape University Body Imaging Centre (CUBIC) runs an active cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging research program with multiple ongoing studies seeking to consolidate and expand the utility of CMR in the management of patients with cardiovascular disease.
We offer a cardiac CT scanning service including coronary artery angiography and TAVI planning. Additional utilization of CT scanning for imaging of congenital cardiac conditions, cardiovascular surgical planning and infective endocarditis.
A monthly multidisciplinary meeting is held for the review of cases, led by Dr Ashleigh Strange (Radiology) and Professor Mpikho Ntsekhe (Cardiology), with shared attendance by registrars, fellows, cardiologists and radiologists from both the public and private sector.
