Congratulations to Graduates in the School

The University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted graduation ceremonies from Saturday 28 March until Thursday 02 April 2026. The Health Sciences Graduation Ceremony 1 was held on 30 March and the Health Sciences Graduation Ceremony 2 held on 31 March 2026.

Five Doctoral students graduated from our School:

Dr Christabell Abewe (Division of Health Economics). Christabell's thesis title: "Extended cost effectiveness analysis of interventions for early detection, screening and breast cancer control: case studies of South Africa and Uganda"

Dr Meagan Jacobs-Alfred (Division of Social and Behavioural Sciences). Meagan's thesis title: "Perceptions and experiences of skin lighteners in Cape Town"

Dr Pheposadi Mogoba (Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics). Phepo's thesis title:  "Evaluating the implementation process of a multicomponent intervention to improve ART adherence among adolescents and young adults living with HIV (AYAHIV)"

Dr Dorothy Nyemba (Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics). Dorothy's thesis title: "Sexually transmitted infections in pregnancy: Is there evidence to support diagnostic testing of curable STIs in routine antenatal care in South Africa?"

Dr Rochelle Woudberg (Division of Health Economics). Rochelle's thesis title:  "The burden of leukemia in South Africa: epidemiological trends, economic impact, and priority setting"

In addition to these PhDs, our graduates included:

  • Master of Medicine (Public Health Medicine) – 1 graduate
  • Master of Medicine (Occupational Medicine) – 1 graduate
     
  • Master of Public Health – 16 graduates

    Master of Chemicals Risk Management – 4 graduates
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics – 27 graduates
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health – 24 graduates
