Congratulations to Graduates in the School
Dr Funeka Bango
The University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted graduation ceremonies from Monday, 8 September until Wednesday, 10 September 2025. The Health Sciences Graduation Ceremony was held on 09 September 2025.
Nine Doctoral students graduated from our School:
Dr Funeka Bango (Health Economics Division). Funeka's thesis title: "The economics of schoolbased sexual and reproductive health education interventions"
Dr Chantal Fowler (Social and Behavioural Sciences Division). Chantal's thesis title: "What are we missing? A qualitative exploration of sexual agency and the related behaviours of AGYW in two HIV interventions in South Africa"
Dr Alex Hakuzimana (Health Economics Division). Alex's thesis title: "A critical assessment of the Rwandan health financing system: Implications for health service utilisation"
Dr Frissiano Honwana (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division). Frissiano's thesis title: "Application of dynamic prediction models for longitudinal biomarkers and clinical outcomes in low and middle-income settings"
Dr Esther Lisasi (Public Health Medicine Division). Esther's thesis title: "Moving from pediatric to adolescent HIV care in Northern Tanzania: exploring transition services, perceptions and self-care during early adolescence"
Dr Dorothy Ngajilo (Occupational Medicine Division). Dorothy's thesis title: "Occupational exposures and associated health risks among Tanzanian aquaculture workers"
Dr Abraham Opare (Public Health Medicine Division). Abraham's thesis title: "Harmonizing core competencies for Master of Public Health Training programmes in Africa"
Dr Namhla Sicwebu (Social and Behavioural Sciences Division). Namhla's thesis title: "An ethnography of urban adolescents’ food choice and practice in urban households of Cape Town"
Dr Priscilla Tsondai (Public Health Medicine Division). Priscilla's thesis title: "Characteristics and outcomes of adolescents living with HIV transitioning to adulthood in different health care models across Southern Africa"
