Congratulations to graduates in the School

Our graduation ceremonies continue to be a highlight in our calendar. The Health Sciences Graduation Ceremony was held on Tuesday 01 April 2025.
Nine Doctoral students graduated from our School:
Dr Shani de Beer (Public Health Medicine Division). Shani’s thesis title: “Characteristics of and factors associated with infectious disease hospital admissions in children by HIV-exposure status in an era of high coverage of prevention of vertical HIV transmission in the Western Cape Province of South Africa”
Dr Nisha Jacob (Public Health Medicine Division). Nisha’s thesis title: “Feasibility, validity and utility of HIV testing data as key components of HIV case-based surveillance”
Dr Kathleen Kehoe (Public Health Medicine Division). Kathleen’s thesis title: “Burden and causes of ongoing paediatric infectious disease morbidity and mortality in the Western Cape Province of South Africa”
Dr Kennedy Kipkoech (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division). Kennedy’s thesis title: “Informing the treatment and prevention response for HIV among people who inject drugs: a case study of South Africa”
Dr Esther Lisasi (Public Health Medicine Division). Esther’s thesis title: “Moving from pediatric to adolescent HIV care in Northern Tanzania: exploring transition services, perceptions and self-care during early adolescence”
Dr Elton Mukonda (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division). Elton’s thesis title: “Improving chronic disease monitoring in resource limited settings: simulation and economic evaluation approaches”
Dr Jasantha Odayar (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Division). Jasantha’s thesis title: “Patterns, predictors and outcomes of patient transfer in public sector chronic primary care services”
Dr Marsha Orgill (Health Policy and Systems Division). Marsha’s thesis title: “Strengthening district management as a key lever in health system strengthening: bottom up innovation in two district health systems in South Africa”
Dr Siyanai Zhou (Social and Behavioural Sciences Division). Siyanai’s thesis title: “ART adherence trajectories and correlates of treatment outcomes among adolescents in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa”
The PhD is a long and strenuous journey and you deserve our warmest congratulations.
