Division of Environmental Health Awards 2025 Rufus Swangaza Scholarship

The Division of Environmental Health in the School of Public Health created the Rufus Swangaza Scholarship in 2020 in commemoration of Mr Rufus Swangaza, who died prematurely and unexpectedly in 2020. Rufus (pictured left) was a Master of Public Health (MPH) student in the Environmental Health (EH) track at the time. He was a practicing Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) in the Western Cape, who was passionate about EHPs continuing their education to be able to carry out their work in their local communities in the Western Cape and beyond. The scholarship, was created to honour the memory of him and his passion by providing financial support to a deserving registered EHP in their first year of the MPH in the EH Track.
The Division proudly congratulates Langelihle Zungu on being awarded the 2025 Rufus Swangaza Scholarship!

Langelihle serves as an EHP for the City of Cape Town. He is strongly committed to ensuring that current and future generations can play, learn, and work in environments free from health threats. He is equally dedicated to making health services accessible to all and mitigating environmental health risks. By furthering his studies through the MPH Environmental Health track, Langelihle aims to enhance his skills and knowledge and make a meaningful contribution to proper decision-making and policy improvement.
The Environmental Health division extends its best wishes to Langelihle for his MPH journey at UCT!
