School of Public Health Africa Day Celebrations

On Thursday 25 May 2023, the School had its Annual Africa Day Staff Tea aimed at celebrating and acknowledging the successes of the Organisation of African Unity (AU) since its inception on 25 May 1963. The day symbolises Africa’s unity, commitment to peace, democracy, and economic development.
Head of the School, Prof Susan Cleary opened the event with a warm welcome and encouraged unity and collaboration between all in the School, country and continent at large. A special welcome was made to students enrolled in the Oliver Tambo Fellowship Programme (OTF) who were attending their contact block week.

The room was filled with a blend of music and poetry by the phenomenal Vusimusi Mpofu and Yonelisa Mallet-Wambi (pictured above) who reflected on the current lived experience of Africans. Read more
Following the thought-provoking words and music that warmed hearts, minds and bodies, staff walked the ‘runway’ showcasing a range of African fashion attire. Awards in the form of trophies were given to those with the best-dressed.
