The division has the following activities:
Outpatient clinics

Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) dermatology services, 8:30 - 13:00
Tuesday
General dermatology clinic, 8:30 - 13:00.

Ward consults service (for RXH)
On general clinic days only (Tuesdays and Thursdays) mobile in-hospital patients can be seen at the clinic for a dermatology assessment if sent before 10 am. On other days patients can be referred from the rest of the hospital only by doctor-to-doctor arrangement. GSH dermatology registrar will be available at RXH on a rotational basis. If dermatology service allocated to RXH should be consulted.
In case of emergency please contact the Groote Schuur Hospital Dermatology Registrar-on-call.
Outreach (Clinical and educational)
Field trips
Clinics are visited in the greater Western Cape Province on a rotational basis, the visits are shared among all consultants (including those based at Groote Schuur Hospital) – venues: Mitchell's Plain. Riversonderend, Hermanus, Bredasdorp, Swellendam, Caledon and Villiersdorp.

Teaching and training
Teaching occurs during University term
5th-year medical students
• Small group teaching during general clinics (Tuesday and Thursdays) for 3 weeks per month
• Large group lecture 7th floor ICH building 1 lecture every 6 weeks.
6th-year medical students
• 1 tutorial to whole medical rotation – Ward G23 Groote Schuur (Friday morning)
Research
Student Supervision, Research Projects and Collaborations
Dr. Hlela is involved in PhD student supervision, where she is responsible for supervising a number of PhD students around South Africa. The students are actively involved in her Academic Projects and she is currently supervising four students.
Whilst a supervisor she also has a few research projects she is currently conducting, where she collaborates with professionals nationally and around the world:
