Clinical activities
We provide
- a specialist paediatric nuclear medicine imaging service.
- a screening program for neonatal hypothyroidism for maternity hospitals and midwife obstetric units associated with the University of Cape Town teaching hospitals.
- in vitro nuclear medicine studies.
- We have access to do PET/CT’s at the Cape PET/CT centre for two afternoons a week.
- assistance to Nuclear Medicine physicians and radiographers who seldom perform investigations on children.
Education and training
- Teaching and training of registrars from University of Cape Town and the University of Stellenbosch in paediatric nuclear medicine.
- Teaching and training of registrars at other Universities in South Africa.
- Teaching and training rotating international fellows.
- Teaching and training of rotating student radiographers and community service radiographers.
- Participation in Congresses, Symposia and Workshops.
Research
We have a special research interest in Paediatric renograms and Gastro-oesophageal studies.
We also assist other departments in their research programs.
