Welcome to Dr Mubeen Goolam

Welcome to Dr Mubeen Goolam who has been appointed as a Lecturer in the Division of Cell Biology from January 2020.
Mubeen received his undergraduate and MSc degrees from UCT. His MSc research investigated in vitro modelling of mouse corneal endothelial development under the supervision of Prof Sue Kidson. In 2012 he registered for a PhD at the University of Cambridge as a Mary Gray Fellow in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience where he identified novel molecular mechanisms involved in early cell fate decisions during mouse development. In 2017 Mubeen moved to the University of Oxford to take up a post-doctoral position in Prof Liz Robertson’s lab to study maternal-fetal interactions during early pregnancy and was also awarded a Junior Research Fellowship to Wolfson College Oxford during this time. His current research will draw from both his PhD and post-doctoral work and will focus on developing an in vitro model of placental development to study maternal-fetal interactions and early embryo cell fate decisions in a defined culture system.
