First cohort of Professional Masters in Chemical Risk Management graduated

The Division of Environmental Health is immensely proud to announce the graduation of the first students of Professional Masters in Chemicals Risk Management (MCRM)! The Professional Masters commenced in 2022, and graduated 14 students from a diverse range of countries in Africa and South America in the 2023 Faculty of Health Sciences graduation ceremony.
This programme builds on the Division’s highly successful postgraduate diploma in Pesticide Risk Management (DPRM). Some of the Professional Masters courses were developed under a UN Global Environmental Fund (GEF) funded project, namely the Environmental Observatories for the Sound Management of Chemicals in Africa (ChemObs) project. MCRM provides students with an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to chemicals risk management. Capacity building is key for countries, particularly low- and middle-income countries, to manage chemicals and waste sustainably. MCRM provides skills and training based on a life cycle approach to relevant for a chemicals risk manager particularly from resource poor countries. The programme is aimed at health professionals, chemists, biologists, agronomists, sociologists, anthropologists, ecologists, agronomists, toxicologists and other professionals working in chemicals management.
Of the 14 graduates for 2023, eight were from ChemObs funded countries, namely Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Congratulations to the first MCRM graduates!
