The Division of Environmental Health in the School of Public Health and Family Medicine created the Rufus Swangaza Scholarship in 2020 in commemoration of Mr Rufus Swangaza, who died prematurely and unexpectedly in 2020.  Rufus (pictured left) was a Master of Public Health (MPH) student in the Environmental Health (EH) track at the time. He was a practicing Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) in the Western Cape, who was passionate about EHPs continuing their education to be able to carry out their work in their local communities in the Western Cape and beyond. The scholarship, worth R20 000, was created to honour his passion by providing financial support to a deserving registered EHP in their first year of the MPH in the EH Track.

After considering several applications, the Division congratulates Mr. Prince Mokoena for being selected for the 2021 scholarship. Prince currently works as an EHP for the City of Cape Town and is passionate about improving health in informal settlements.

Prince Mokoena

Congratulations Prince!  The EH division wishes you all the best for your MPH at UCT.
