Results of the SPH&FM language survey are out!
The results speak to the remarkable linguistic diversity across the School:
- 57% of respondents were staff and 43% were students
- More than 30 different languages are spoken in the School, including each of the official languages of South Africa
- Among staff, isiXhosa is the most commonly spoken home language followed by English and Afrikaans
- Beyond the official languages of South Africa, there are 11 additional African languages spoken among students and staff, including Shona, Swahili, Igbo, Oshiwambo, Luo, Yoruba, Amharic, Hausa, Bemba, Akan/Twi and Chichewa
