Professor Myer is a leading epidemiologist with 25 years of experience in maternal and child health, HIV treatment, and prevention research in South Africa. Currently a Professor and Head of the Division of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at UCT, he has extensive expertise in clinical epidemiology, particularly observational and experimental methods. His research focusses on optimising antiretroviral therapy delivery, studying HIV-exposed but uninfected children, and investigating non-communicable diseases in women with HIV. He has played a key role in major cohort studies and trials, contributing to epidemiologic methods and best practices. As a leader, he oversees research operations in Cape Town, particularly at the Gugulethu Community Health Centre. Additionally, he teaches epidemiology, mentors postgraduate students, leads a large research group, and supports HIV care services, emphasising capacity-building and training in epidemiology and public health.
