President of Convocation Medal (2017) awarded to Dr Sophia Kisting-Cairncross
In her citation, President of Convocation Lorna Houston, lauded Sophia, currently director of the National Institute for Occupational Health, a UCT medical graduate and previous staff member of the School, for her distinguished leadership, which demonstrated a deep and abiding passion for collective and inclusive efforts to protect the health, social and economic rights of the most vulnerable workers.
This is a wonderful acknowledgement of Sophie’s specific contribution, highlighting the positive role of occupational health academics and researchers in addressing the health challenges facing workers.
