Open Education Week is a celebration of the Open Education Movement, that aims to raise awareness about open education and its impact on teaching and learning worldwide.

The week (2 - 6 March) is coordinated by the Open Education Consortium, an association of organizations from around the world that are committed to making education more open, free, and available to everyone. During the week, universities, colleges, schools and other educational organizations showcase what they’re doing to advance open education.

The University of Cape Town has a special website which promotes its open educational resources – www.Open.uct.ac.za. OpenUCT is our open access institutional repository launched in 2014 and an online academic research information service of UCT Libraries.. It makes available and digitally preserves the scholarly outputs produced at UCT, including theses and dissertations, journal articles, book chapters, technical and research reports, and Open Educational Resources (OER). As a faculty, Health Sciences, though not the biggest, has more OER items – 6478 – listed on the site, than any other!
