Teaching, Learning & Assessment (TLA) 

This course is designed for educators in Health Sciences Education who want to enhance their teaching strategies, student engagement, and assessment practices. Running from 31 March to 24 April 2025, this online course includes weekly lunchtime MS Teams sessions, covering key topics such as active learning pedagogy, workplace-based learning, giving and receiving feedback, and using technology for assessment. This zero-cost opportunity for UCT staff provides a flexible and practical approach to refining teaching methods in a supportive learning environment. 

 

Current Aspects of Teaching and Learning (CATL) 

The Current Aspects of Teaching & Learning in Health Sciences Education (CATL) module has officially launched as the first Health EDU’s short course published on UCT’s new Learning Store. This milestone marks an exciting step toward expanding access to accessible professional development. 

This course, the first of two modules, explores key themes on Artificial Intelligence, Student Success, and Assessment, equipping educators with innovative strategies to enhance teaching and learning. Open to UCT and external participants, the course has generated significant interest, reflecting the growing demand for flexible, high-quality professional development in Health Sciences Education. 

 

Tutor training 

The tutor training and development online self-paced learning material provides basic teaching and classroom management knowledge and strategies for tutors. Topics include: 

  • Tutor roles and responsibilities 

  • What is learning 

  • Vygotsky’s model of teaching 

  • How to facilitate learning? 

  • How to facilitate inclusive learning? 

  • How to give feedback? 

  • How do you teach a practical or clinical skill? 

 

Innovative Teaching using Technology (iTuT) 

 

This CPD-accredited course is designed for educators, clinicians and professionals who want to integrate e-learning technologies into their teaching strategies. It may also be of general value to those interested in learning more about some of the most commonly used technologies or who would like to implement them in their interaction with students, but are unsure how to do so. This course is aimed at individuals who are not experienced users of e-learning technologies.
