
The Education Development Unit in the Health Sciences Faculty offers a 6-topic course on using technology effectively and efficiently, primarily to implement in different teaching settings. This course is designed to help educators integrate technology into different teaching settings by equipping them with practical skills to design content in a way that is relevant to their contexts. The techniques and principles covered can also benefit researchers and professionals in other fields. The next iteration of the course will run in 2026.

This course is ideal for educators looking to expand their digital teaching toolkit, especially those new to e-learning or seeking greater confidence in using educational technologies. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to leverage innovative teaching tools effectively.
Course Summary
This course explores the possibilities of using technology in teaching, with a focus on Microsoft’s suite and other supported tools. It consists of six standalone modules, each equipping educators with practical skills and knowledge that can be applied independently. Participants can select topics most relevant to them.

Delivery
The course is delivered in a hybrid format—both synchronous and asynchronous—using MS Teams and Amathuba (UCT’s learning management system). Sessions incorporate interactive tools, presentations, and scholarly articles to enhance learning.

Course structure
The course runs over six weeks, requiring 2–3 hours per week for live sessions, activities, and reflection. The first session is essential, providing the foundation for the following weeks. After this, participants can choose topics they would like to participate in.
Cost & CPD points
This course is fully funded by the Education Development Unit, Health Sciences, and is free for participants. Educators will earn 2 CPD points per completed topic.
