As we look back on 2024, the Health Sciences Education Development Unit (EDU) celebrates a year of innovation, transformation, and academic support across undergraduate, postgraduate, and staff development initiatives. Our core mission remains to enhance teaching and learning within the Faculty of Health Sciences, ensuring that students and educators are equipped with the necessary tools to succeed in a rapidly evolving educational landscape. A significant highlight of the year was our ongoing contribution to curriculum transformation, mainly through our advisory role in developing the Curriculum Transformation Framework in collaboration with the Deanery. Our efforts in staff development saw 178 faculty members participating in workshops covering teaching, learning, assessment, AI integration, and digital literacy. Additionally, transitioning to Amathuba as the primary Learning Management System (LMS) was a key shift, requiring extensive faculty training and support from our EDUTech team. In supporting student success, we expanded academic support offerings, including the Nyukela Augmented Support Programme for undergraduate students and an enhanced postgraduate Enrichment Programme, providing structured guidance from research conceptualisation to thesis completion. Our AI upskilling workshops were well-received, highlighting the growing need for technology-driven learning solutions. As we build on these successes, the EDU remains committed to advancing health sciences education through research, innovation, and student-centred learning strategies.
