April was global Autism Awareness Month. As part of the initiative, the BBC World Service had a special feature on Autism in Africa. Prof Petrus de Vries, from the Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town, was invited to join the live BBC broadcast team to discuss some of the needs, challenges and opportunities around Autism in Africa. Prof de Vries is an internationally-recognised expert in autism and has participated in autism research since the 1990s, while training in Cambridge.
