It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Dr Richard Raine (“Ricky”), on Tuesday morning, 24^TH March 2026. 

He was a highly respected colleague and longstanding member of the Division of Pulmonology in the Department of Medicine. 
Richard was an outstanding pulmonologist and expert in respiratory physiology, known for his humility, dedication, and exceptional contributions to patient care, teaching, and service. 

He played a key role in developing lung function, exercise testing, and sleep services, and remained deeply committed to the division even during his own illness. 

His passing is a profound loss to the department and the wider medical community, and he will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, and lasting impact on colleagues and trainees alike. 

A formal notification will follow from the Deanery. 

A book of remembrance has been placed in E16 for those who wish to leave a note; this will be shared with his family.

My sincerest condolences to his family and colleagues with whom he worked so closely.
