Associate Professor Dion Levin obtained his medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 1992 and an MBA from the UCT Graduate School of Business in 1997. He specialized in Internal Medicine and sub-specialized in Gastro-enterology at UCT, obtaining the Fellowship of the College of Physicians and the Certificate of Gastro-enterology from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2004 and 2006, respectively. 

Dion has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at UCT and Groote Schuur Hospital since 2007. He initiated and has led, along with a surgical colorectal colleague, colonoscopy upskilling and training courses in South Africa and Namibia over the last 10 years. 

Dion undertook a Fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London in 2006. Following this training, he launched the first Endoscopic Ultrasound clinical service and training programme in the Western Cape, at Groote Schuur Hospital. Over the last 18 years, Dion has played a key role in the training of sub-specialist Gastro-enterologist at Groote Schuur Hospital, including colleagues from other African countries. In addition, Dion has undertaken undergraduate MBChB lecturing and bedside teaching, and has published in local and international journals on  studies conducted in the UCT/Groote Schuur Hospital Division of Gastroenterology.
